Company History
 "We've been cool for 25 years" by Chris Strand
In the winter of 1978, I loaded my rusted-out Toyota with my
belongings, emptied my bank account of $1,200 and set off for
Austin, Texas. I had recently graduated from Michigan State
University and wanted to start my new working life in a warm
climate.
The energy crisis was at its peak in 1978. I sincerely felt
that a career in energy conservation would be my life's work.
Accordingly, in the fall of 1978, I founded Conservation Unlimited,
the original name of the firm. Back then, Conservation
Unlimited had a staff of one and operated out of my garage.
My brother, Tom, joined the company in 1980; my mom, Caroline,
joined in 1982 followed by my brother, John, in 1984. In 1992,
we changed our name to Strand Brothers because that is how everyone
knew us.
Originally, we concentrated on making a home's envelope energy
efficient through the use of insulation, solar screens, caulking and
weather stripping. We soon realized that to make a truly
efficient home we had to enter the heating and cooling business.
Strand Brothers is proud of our many accomplishments over the past
twenty-five years. We have grown into the largest and most
respected air conditioning, heating and weatherization company in
Central Texas with over 60 employees. We pioneered the "Whole
House Approach" to home energy conservation and the use of radiant
barriers. Strand Brothers started a full service commercial
air conditioning and heating division. Our customer
satisfaction response rate has been extraordinary. We
consistently exceed most of our customers' expectation.
In February, 1998 we merged with Service Experts, the most trusted
name in the air conditioning and heating industry. We are
still family operated, but now have the strength of a 100 year old,
$3 billion corporation behind us.
My brothers and I believe that the reason we've achieved our goals
is because of the people we've been able to attract and retain.
Our staff includes the best people is the industry who are as
dedicated to customer service as we are. Tom, John, Mom and I
are grateful to Central Texas for all their support. |
