There are approximately 200 people diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis weekly. MS is an autoimmune disorder that causes a person’s immune system to attack its own tissues or organs, causing nerve damage. Symptoms of MS can include fatigue, weekness, visual issues, pain and numbness, and cognitive dysfunctions. A very distinct symptom of MS is sensitivity to increased temperatures. In fact, it’s reported that 60% to 80% of people living with MS show excessive sensitivity to increases in their core body temperature.
The sensitivity to heat isn’t just a symptom, it also makes other symptoms worse.
Since even the smallest climb in core body temperature (from one-quarter to one-half of a degree) can cause symptoms to worsen, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning cares strongly about this cause. While we enjoy being involved in our local areas and give back where we can, this disease and all the issues that come with it hold a special place in our hearts.

Given the climbing temperatures, everyone should be careful, stay hydrated, and rest as needed. If you or a loved one has MS, please remember these suggestions from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to ease the effect of the heat:
· Stay in an air-conditioned environment during times of extreme heat and humidity. If an air conditioner is necessary to help minimize the symptoms of MS, the cost of these systems may be tax deductible if the doctor has written a prescription for it.
· Use cooling products such as vests, neck wraps, and bandanas, during exercise or outdoor activity, or pre- and post-cool.
· Wear loose, “breathe-able” clothing.
· Icy drinks such as “slushes” or popsicles may provide short-term relief.
· Use an oscillating fan during indoor exercise.
