Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last of the weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. Nothing is worse than laying down at night just to realize your furnace won’t turn on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are some things you can check yourself before your call Strand Brothers Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters each month. If you fail to do so, they can get clogged, obstructing air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

See if turning the temperature up a few degrees will get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but verify the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your heating system will still not turn on, give Strand Brothers Service Experts a call at 512-592-3072 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
